Vinyl siding generally requires low maintenance but it is important to lean them regularly to remove the dirt and grime. In certain climatic conditions like humid, mold or mildew may even develop which needs to be removed. Most manufacturers of vinyl siding cleaner provide cleaning instruction manual, but if it is not provided, you can follow the steps which we have provided below.
Removing Dirt from Vinyl Siding
For removing the dirt and grime, you could hose down the vinyl sliding using a garden hose attached with a pressure washer or a spray nozzle, setting it to a medium spray pattern. While you are hosing, make sure that the spray pattern from the spray nozzle is wide enough to prevent the siding from being damaged and keeping the nozzle moving. To start with, start washing from the bottom and then slowly move up. For rinsing, start from the top and move downwards. Spraying even with the siding would prevent the water from running behind the siding. You could also pray in the direction of the joints which are overlapped.
Cleaning Solution for Vinyl Siding
For additional cleaning of the vinyl siding, add some special cleaning solution to the pressure washer or you could make your own solution by mixing certain materials in a bucket in order to clean using your hand. You can make the solution with 1 gallon of water, about one-third of laundry detergent powder and two-thirds or trisodium phosphate (TSP) cleaner.
After you mix your solution, take a car cleaning brush with soft bristle and a long handle and dip it in the solution. Then gently scrub the vinyl siding from the bottom and move upwards. Start rinsing off the cleaning solution using a garden hose from the top to the bottom.
Mold Removing Techniques for Vinyl Siding
For killing the mold and mildew on the vinyl siding, you could apply a mold and mildew remover. Bleaching with a solution of one-quarter bleach to one gallon of the cleaning solution could also be the done to treat mold mildew. IT is important to cover the plants while cleaning as to prevent them from bleach. Using a pump up sprayer, wet the siding with the bleach solution and keep in for about 10minutes. Scrub it with a soft brush and rinse it with a garden hose.
